The 1976/1977 season was one of Real Betis' first great seasons, thanks to winning the first Copa del Rey title, and in turn, qualifying for Europe for the first time.
In the final against Athletic Club Bilbao, Real Betis won the penalty shootout after a 2-2 score. After 19 penalties, Esnaola saved the last of them against Iribar. A confrontation for history.
